Female Athlete Injury Prevention Program-Injury Screening at Local high schools The staff at Performance Orthopedics and members of Oakland University’s Recreation Department have initiated a program to screen female athletes in order to assess their risk for injury. They provide free injury prevention screenings for High School female athletes.

Our team of doctors, physical therapists, and athletic trainers evaluate the young athletes for any imbalances that may predispose them to injury. Based on the findings, a score is derived which places the athletes in various categories of relative risk. For those with a significant risk for injury, referrals are made to seek help to correct imbalances and thus reduce risk of injury. We can also suggest programs or products that might help the female athlete in decreasing their risk of injury. One program through Oakland University Recreational Department focuses on core strengthening and sport specific drills to reduce injury.

This year was Performance Orthopedics 3rd annual visit to the Boys and Girls Club for their Halloween event. The doctors and staff got dressed in Halloween costumes and interacted with the children at the Boys and Girls Club. The doctors spoke about being safe on Halloween while trick-or-treating and what to expect in a growing athlete. The staff was able to play games with the children while educating them on injury prevention in specific sports including Baseball, Basketball, Football, Soccer and playground games. Performance Orthopedics also gave awards for the children with the best costumes. Both the Boys and Girls Club and Performance Orthopedics are excited about future Halloween events.

Every year Performance Orthopedics participates in the annual Walk for the Future that benefits the Boys and Girls Club of South Oakland County. The doctors and staff each raise donations and participate in a 2 mile walk as a team. After the walk Performance Orthopedics enjoys the entertainment, games and interactions with the children. This year the Walk for the Future is being held at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak on Saturday, May 6th.

Yes, there most definitely is.

Advil and Motrin are the same medicine. They contain ibuprofen which is an anti-inflammatory medicine. It is one of the NSAID’s. That stands for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs which can cause addiction just like its explained at this Inpatient Rehabilitation Centre Review.

White Sands says that they interfere with some of the chemicals in our body that lead to inflammation (swelling and pain). They also reduce the ability for platelets to clot our blood. They are very helpful for pain from inflammation from recent or old injury, arthritis pain as well. Other examples include Alleve which is the same as Naprosyn. The active ingredient is naproxen.

Tylenol has neither of these drugs as ingredients. Tylenol is made of pure acetaminophen. This has no anti-inflammatory properties. Acetominophen is an ingredient in several over the counter and prescription medicines (primarily pain relievers). It does help reduce mild to moderate pain (such as those caused by headaches or minor surgeries), and can also lower fevers. Even though these medicines are sold over the counter without prescription, you should heed the warnings on the label. If you have any serious medical conditions or take other prescription medicines, the you should consult your doctor before taking any of these.

SuperBowl: 40 Days of Fitness
Performance Orthopedics was proud to be a part of the 40 Days of Fitness leading up to the SuperBowl. Performance Orthopedics in conjunction with the NFL, William Beaumont Hospitals and numerous supporting businesses of the Detroit metro area provided a variety of free services and information about different health factors. Doctors Jurist, Guettler, and Bak spoke to people about common injuries seen in different populations and then provided a free screening to anyone interested.

On the final day of the 40 Days of Fitness, Performance Orthopedics sponsored a booth where people could receive information about specific sport injury prevention, talk to the doctors about orthopedic issues, have a free injury risk screening, and perform a fitness challenge supervised by Oakland University’s Recreational Department, not to mention having a chance to win free SuperBowl tickets!
